About Florence

Welcome!  Because finding someone to work with you through some of life’s challenging moments requires trust and emotional safety, it’s always nice to get to know a little about them first.  Here are some key things that might be helpful in learning about my career journey to see if I’m a good fit for you!

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, offering individual therapy for adults 18+ who are experiencing stress, anxiety, difficulty with life transitions, and pet loss. I’m also a Clinical Supervisor for BBS-Registered Associates working towards licensure.

Besides offering mental health services, I also offer educational and wellness services that are separate from the mental health services I provide.

Former clients describe me as warm, welcoming, and an advocate at heart. I’ve often been told I have excellent listening skills and a natural ability to understand the deeper parts of someone who may be hurting. My goal is to help clients uncover their strengths, find their support, and reconnect with what matters most to them.

I earned my M.S. in Counseling from CSU Sacramento in 1997, became licensed in 2003, and have served as a Clinical Supervisor since 2005.

In 2012, I completed my Level 1 Certification in Narrative Therapy from the Vancouver School for Narrative Therapy. My passion for continuing education keeps me expanding my skills and integrating new therapeutic approaches.

In 2005, I opened my private practice and discovered a special niche in Veterinary Medicine mental health. Did you know veterinarians are three times more likely than the public to die by suicide? After spending six years working as a mental health professional at the nation’s #1 veterinary school, I’m honored to continue serving the veterinary community—from veterinarians and technicians to client service representatives and beyond.

I’m passionate about helping veterinary professionals overcome compassion fatigue, burnout, anxiety, perfectionism, and imposter syndrome, so they can refocus on the meaningful work they do caring for animals—furry or otherwise.

I also enjoy working with pet parents whose pets are seen by Behavioral Veterinarians, supporting them through the emotional journey that can accompany caring for animals with behavioral challenges.
